What is a custom canvas and what is the process to order?

A custom canvas is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece of art. It's not a digital or factory print. I hand-letter and hand-paint the names or words of your choice using real high-quality acrylic paints on artist grade high-quality canvases. Unlike mass-produced digital prints, every custom name I make is a completely original, hand-painted artwork. I carefully sketch and paint each letter on premium stretched canvas, made to order so your piece will be entirely unique and specially tailored to you.

Will my custom canvas be framed?

Accepted Answer

Your custom canvas will arrive unframed but ready to hang! I paint on premium stretched canvas with fully finished, painted edges, so it looks beautiful and complete on your wall just as it is.  I work on premium stretched canvas with finished edges, meaning they are ready to hang immediately without a frame.  However, my canvas art can be framed, but I leave that up to the client to choose the desing of the frame at their framing shop.

How will I get my painting once I have ordered it and how long does it take?

Once you have placed your order, it usuall takes about 2 weeks to get your order to you, please give sufficient notice of when your event is. I cannot create a painted canvas in 2 days. I will deliver your paintings to you withing a 40mile radious from Toronto, and anything further away will be send via Fedex.

Do you do live illustration for small events and how do I book an event with you?

Yes, I love drawing for small groups and intimate settings. No group is too small and I'm always there to accomodate even a small gathering.To check availability and book your date, please fill out my website contact form with your event date, location, hours requested, and estimated guest count. To officially secure your date on my calendar, I require a 50% non-refundable fee.

Do you illustrate at high volume weddings. What if I have 200 guest at my wedding?

Yes, I love illustrating at large weddings! However, because each illustration is hand-drawn and painted, it is impossible for one artist to paint all 200 guests in a single night.How it works for large crowds: I paint as many guests as possible during the live event.  For the remaining guests, we can discuss a "studio completion" where I take photos to my studio to finish the remaining pieces after the wedding.If you have a large volume of guests it is recomened that 1 or 2 more illustrators are hired to accomodate your guest list. It usually takes anywhere from 8 to 10 minutes to create a live quick sketch of guests so accomodating large volumes of people for one artist alone is realistically not possible.The remaining watercolour illustrations can be delivered or mailed to your home or office.

What are your rates for live event illustration?

My live illustration packages start at $600 for 4 hours. Final rates depend on your location (travel fees may apply), the number of hours requested, and the specific guest count. Contact me for a customized proposal!

How long will you stay at an event and what is the process for live event illustration?

Accepted Answer

Usually at an event a live event illustrator will stay for about 4 to 6 hours. I usually arrive 1 hour early to set up my materials before guests arrive and additional hours can be added to your contract ahead of time if you want me there for the full duration of your event. Sometimes clients book for the whole evening which would be about 8hrs.Setup: I arrive early to set up my work table at a designated spot at your venue. I need a table that is near an electrical outlet.

Live Drawing: Usully me, or my assistant will take pictures of all the guests who wish to be drawn. As the picture are taken then I will start drawing them and during the event, guests can come watch me draw live while they are enjoying the event.

Pickup: Guests can pick up their finished illustrations during the event or near the end of the night. This will give them a unique personalized keepsake to take home. All illustrations will be placed in a plastic envelope for safe keeping and to ensure no damage occurs to their illustration.

What materials do you work with and what canvas sizes do you use?

For live events, I use professional-grade watercolours and markers and I use 140 lbs (300 gsm) 100% cotton, Hot Pressed watercolour paper that can withstand the heavy application of water.For studio custom canvases, I work with high-quality acrylic paint on stretched cotton canvas.The canvas sizes are determined by the length of the name(s) requested. Longer names will take a longer rectangular canvas, where shorter names can take a square. These details will be discussed with you personally.I usually have a live telephone conversation with my client after you submit your information on my website so we can further discuss your details live on the phone.My canvas sizes start and range from:10x20 | 11x14 | 12x24 | 15x30 | 16x16 | 16x20 | 18x24 | 24x24 | 20x20 | 24x30 | 26x36Larger sized canvases are usually for weddings.All the work is uniquely priced depending upon the complexity of the words required and how long it takes and the details required. All custom canvases start at $175 and larger canvases for weddings and special occassions start at $250 - $600 plus. Details will be given in a final quote.
